A’PIT’SEK’TU’WAKEN
MAKING PEACE FOR THE FINAL PASSAGE
There is a beautiful Mi’kmaq custom called A’pit’sek’tu’waken (making peace) that frees up a loved one to make the final passage.
There are Mi’kmaq traditions around the wake and the Salite which is the gathering following the wake that helps to pay for the funeral expenses.
Mawita’mk Society is a registered charitable society in We’koqma’q First Nation that celebrates the gifts of people with disabilities. Join a group of elders for a day of reflection and sharing on the value of making peace and the importance of honoring our loved ones.
Making peace….What a beautiful tradition.
